Local leaders in Titusville gathered to dedicate a new plaque at the town's post office, now officially named the Edwin L. Drake Post Office.

The ceremony honored Drake, who famously drilled the first commercial oil well in the 1850s, putting Titusville on the map and shaping the nation's energy industry.

Residents and visitors gathered to witness the plaque unveiling and reflect on the impact of Drake's discovery.

Officials said the dedication not only celebrates Drake's legacy, but also serves as a reminder of the town's rich history and the importance of educating the public about its pioneering past.

Leaders said the new name ensures that Edwin Drake's legacy lives on in Titusville.
