A new exhibit will open Sunday at the Tom Ridge Environmental Center. 

It's called Navigating Peril: Lake Erie's Shipwrecks and Beacons. 

The exhibit explores the treacherous geology of Lake Erie, the history of maritime navigation, and features renderings of shipwrecks off the shores of Erie County. 

“We are grateful to the exhibit presenting sponsors, S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie and PNC Bank, for making this project possible," Jennifer Farrar, the CEO of Tom Ridge Environmental Center Foundation, said.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity to highlight our region’s maritime history, the cultural preservation of these shipwrecks, the fish ecosystems they support, and the present-day scientific data collection that helps ensure safer navigation of our waters for today’s mariners."

A preview night reception will be held Saturday. The exhibit will be open until Nov. 30.
