The YMCA of Greater Erie is celebrating its 165th anniversary by focusing on Erie's senior population.

They hosted their annual Active Older Adults Day at Camp Sherwin Wednesday.

It gave seniors a chance to enjoy fitness classes, crafts and social activities.

Organizers said the event is about more than just recreation - it's about creating opportunities for connection.

“As you get older, you’re by yourself, so this way you get out to meet new people and you make new friends, which is what it’s all about,” Dianne Dale, a YMCA instructor, said.

The first meeting of the volunteer founders happened on Aug. 20, 1860.
