Jamestown Holds 44th Annual Labor Day Festival in Bergman Park

Visitors and community members celebrate at Jamestown's Labor Day Festival at Bergman Park, Jamestown NY
Jamestown, NY - Families came together for a community tradition that’s been running for more than four decades this weekend at Bergman Park.
The 44th Annual Labor Day Festival, hosted by Collaborative Children's Solutions in partnership with the City of Jamestown Parks Department featured local vendors, food stands, live music, midget league football scrimmages, local dancers, and professional wrestling.
Organizers said the goal was to provide something for everyone while keeping the focus on workers, the reason Labor Day is observed.
A major highlight of the day was the presentation of the George Ritzer Labor Award to Erica Ericson, a senior assembly technician at the New Flyer plant. Ericson was recognized for her role in helping certify a labor union at the plant and her dedication to improving working conditions for employees across the country.
"This is a big day for us to honor someone from our community," stated Kent Joesel, IBEW Local 106, Business Manager. "Ericson is being recognized today not only for leading labor but for moving the workforce community forward here in Jamestown."
The celebration also included plenty of activities for all ages. A citywide Jamestown Midget League scrimmage brought young athletes to the field, while the local dance group Dance with Victoria performed live, showcasing local talent and drawing big crowds.
Festivalgoers said the event continues to grow in popularity. A first-time visitor said they were surprised by how much there was to do for families and plan to come back again.
"This really is a great festival," stated Jamestown resident, Barbara Gossman. "There has been music all day and the vendors are great."
"It is a fantastic festival," agreed Chautauqua County native, Dave Webster. "It is very well planned out; they have been doing this for years and have it down to a science."

Even the performers said they were glad to be part of the fun.
"We love coming to large festivals and events like this," said John McChesney, Big League Professional Wrestling/Southern Tier Wrestling. "When you have a big crowd and food around, there is nothing better than having pro wrestling around, I have always said that. It's a really good time and hopefully we will be back next year."
Organizers said the turnout was strong and reflected what the event has become over four decades: a family tradition, a celebration of community, and a recognition of the workers at the heart of Labor Day.
