'Workers Over Billionaires' Day of Protest

The Erie chapter of the volunteer-led 50-501 movement showed its support for workers while participating in a "Workers Over Billionaires" day of protest.
The activists joined in a nationwide protest and gathered in downtown Erie on Labor Day Monday.
While Labor Day is a day to recognize the work of laborers, the mission and voices of those who fought for workers' rights were not forgotten with the protest.
Christy Reeves, the state organizer for 50-501 Erie, PA, explained why she believes in prioritizing workers over billionaires: "We want people to know that the workers are who run this country. Billionaires have way too much influence over what happens to the workers, what happens in our government, and it's not right. It's not fair, because they make up such a small portion of the population."
Monday's protest was also in response to the U.S. Secretary of Labor's visit to the city.
