The Perry Page Turner Reading Club
The students and staff of Perry Elementary School are starting the school year off strong. School organizers are on a mission to reignite the joy of reading. They are enlisting 100 reading visits in the first 100 days of school. Recently the school kicked off "The Perry Page Turner Reading Club" with a visit from the Director of the Erie School District, Linda Graff.
Graff says "I try to support most of the activates in the schools if I can. it's just so important as I said when we were talking here, reading is like a superpower if you can get that super power the opportunities are endless. So, I really want to try to instill that in the students."
The reading club makes reading a priority, placing an extra emphasis on students in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Information from the Georgia Municipal Association states that kids who do not read proficiently by the end of the third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school.
Organizers say they are "Turning the page to a brighter future."
