Officials broke ground on the new East Bayfront Greenway Trail Wednesday.

The Redevelopment Authority and the City of Erie are working on the project. 

It's part of a larger effort to transform vacant lots in blighted neighborhoods in Erie.

Artists will create murals and decorative tiles for the park.

The goal is to connect different spots to create one long trail.

$1.5 million in American Rescue Plan funding is being used for the project.
