West Ridge Bids Farewell to Beloved Firefighter Louis F. Becker
The West Ridge Fire Department bids a heartfelt farewell to one of its most devoted and beloved members — Louis F. Becker, the department's oldest active firefighter.
“He’s going to be sadly missed,” said Jerry DeRosa, Fire Chief at West Ridge Fire Department. “Lou was an extremely active member of our department, the oldest member, and he’s going to be missed a lot.”
Becker served both as a firefighter and as part of the fire police, holding the rank of lieutenant. He was known throughout the department for his loyalty, his laughter, and his unforgettable stories.
“We’re going to give him an honorable sendoff,” DeRosa said. “And we’re going to take it from here.”
Beyond his service in the firehouse, Lou Becker lived a full and meaningful life. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a lifelong Erie resident, he married his beloved wife Joanne — whom he met when he was just 12 years old.
“It’s a great honor to at least show our respect and appreciation for a man who devoted his entire life to the West Ridge Volunteer Fire Department,” said DeRosa.
Becker is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren — and by the many generations of firefighters who will carry on his legacy of dedication, humility, and service.
