Gov. Shapiro Attends Artificial Intelligence Summit in Pittsburgh

Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro, U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick, and many other industry leaders are in Pittsburgh today for the second annual AI Horizon's summit.
The steel city is on a mission to become the world leader in physical AI technology. The goal is to manufacture the hardware updates that industries across the world will need as artificial intelligence gets integrated into daily life.
Pennsylvania is also in the race to get new data centers constructed in the state. Many Pennsylvania lawmakers have lauded artificial intelligence as a new economic frontier for the state, and want to streamline regulations around the industry.
For example, Shapiro spoke about speedy permit and license work from the state during a panel this afternoon. He also touted a $20 billion investment announced from Amazon to build a data center earlier this year.
"That becomes the backbone for all of the creative genius that exists in this room, for developing the technologies that are going to allow us to grow our economy here in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. “Not just for a few years, but really to me, this is a generational change.
Some lawmakers and advocates remain concerned about environmental and psychological impacts of artificial intelligence.
