While funeral arrangements are underway for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot on a Utah campus last week — right here in Erie, educators across several districts are facing backlash for comments posted on their personal social media accounts.

"We have the right to our speech, you know. Charlie had his life taken from him, and that hurt our generation," said Trenton Tidball.

The Meadville School District recently held a meeting where multiple alumni voiced concerns about online posts made by a middle school teacher they identified as Chris Condon.

"The importance of being here is to bring awareness — somebody who is supposed to be leading our kids, supposed to be an example — and he's an example of somebody who wasn’t doing that," said David Talesky.

One alum, Faith Kellick, shared screenshots of the teacher’s posts on Facebook. Her post quickly gained traction — " reposted by conservative commentator Cadence Owen, conservative activist Scott Presler, and even Elon Musk. It has now been viewed more than one million times."

"Charlie was like a big brother for a lot of us, you know.  You know, minds like Chris Condon's influencing these children are how we get people like Tyler Robinson in our society," said Faith Kellick.

Currently, the Meadville teacher is on administrative leave pending further investigation.

But this isn’t the only case. Gannon University has also confirmed it has addressed controversial posts. Dr. Walter Iwanenko said, "I am profoundly disappointed by these actions and must condemn the inappropriate reactions that have surfaced across various platforms, including from within our own university community."

In response, the university has initiated disciplinary actions, including termination.

Meanwhile, the Northeast School District released a statement that said in part:

"While the district cannot comment on individual employee matters, we want to make it clear that the views recently expressed by the employee on social media do not reflect the vision, mission, and values of the North East School District."
