Warren, PA — With the nation’s political climate marked by division and rising tension, the Warren County League of Women Voters is calling on citizens not to withdraw, but to step forward and participate.
Representatives say polarization and political turmoil have left many discouraged, but the League stresses that every vote still carries weight.
“Even when politics feels overwhelming, our votes and involvement matter," said Sally Beckerink, Warren County League of Women Voters Vice President.
The organization, which has remained nonpartisan since its founding more than a century ago, is focusing heavily on voter education and turnout efforts. That includes outreach to younger voters and underrepresented communities who, leaders say, will play a critical role in the future of democracy.
Alongside increasing participation, the League is also tackling misinformation and concerns about election integrity. Leaders emphasize that transparency and accessibility are vital to restoring public trust in the democratic process.
“We’re seeing a lot of people disengaging because of incorrect information they have been seeing online," Beckerink continued. "You have to be careful about what you read and see. So many things are slanted as to what they want you to know. But sites like the League of Women Voters, we are nonpartisan and have correct and verified facts and information."
To encourage voter engagement, the group is visiting all five public libraries across Warren County to assist residents in registering and obtaining information about the upcoming election season.
"We want everyone to be informed, and to not be afraid. Don't be afraid of working at the poles, going to the poles to vote, or even running for office," Beckerink said. "Civic engagement is so important. In Warren County right now we have 94 vacant offices, judge of elections, auditor positions, constables and even one place doesn't have a mayor! It's so important for people to get involved."
Upcoming voter registration drives, educational events, and community forums are part of the League’s ongoing effort to encourage informed participation at every level of government.
