In the 1950s, what's now known as the Barber National Institute was launched in Erie.

Decades later, the founder is being celebrated through what's called Founder's Day.

It comes during the same week every year, the week of the late Dr. Gertrude Barber's birthday.

The event was enjoyed by staff, students and the families of the institute, which helps those with special needs.
