It's been five years since turmoil erupted in Millcreek over a senior center called the J.0.Y. Center.

The then-Millcreek supervisors suddenly shut off funding for the center, forcing it to close after only a few months in operation. The closing angered the seniors, but the J.O.Y. Center did not die.   In fact, it has a new home.

The J.O.Y. Center is now located at Peach and Metz Streets in the City of Erie.  The Sunflower Club is leasing the building to MECA.   MECA is the organization that plans programs for the seniors.

The J.O.Y. Center seniors have been meeting at a room at the West Ridge Fire Department, but they are now happy to, once again, have a home of their own.

"Millcreek did what they did for their own reasons.  We're doing what we need to do for our reasons.  So we just need to move on and grow and provide a home forever for seniors,” says Laura Eaton, MECA’s Executive Director.

The J.O.Y. Center has been open at its new location since December 3.  A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on January 25th.
Membership is open to seniors from throughout Erie County.
