Erie News Now has confirmed that the man injured in an early morning skateboarding accident is Erie SeaWolves catcher Chace Numata.

The call came into Erie Police around 2:15 a.m. Friday as a report of a pedestrian struck in the area of East 4th and French Streets.

When officers arrived, they found a man in the street suffering from some sort of head injury.

Erie News Now has learned that police checked surveillance video from the area and say the man went down while riding that skateboard along French street and was not hit by any passing vehicle. Investigators also say the video shows Numata lying in the street for about 4 minutes before any help arrives and an ambulance is called.

No word on the extent of Numata's injuries. Erie SeaWolves say a statement from their parent club Detroit Tigers is coming soon.
