Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Greene Township Crash
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook has released the identity of the driver who was killed in a Greene Township crash Wednesday afternoon.
It was reported in the 9900 block of Bliley Rd. around 3:46 p.m.
Matthew Gottschling, 21, of Waterford, died from multiple blunt force trauma, Cook said. His death was ruled as accidental.
Gottschling was behind the wheel of a Buick Century sedan when he lost control of the car in the snow, hit a guide rail then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Suburban SUV.
Another passenger in the car - Destiny Eicher, 20, of Erie - was taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment.
Neither Gottschling or Eicher were wearing their seat belts, according to State Police.
First responders had to free the victims from the crash, according to reports from the scene.
The driver of the Suburban - a 35-year-old Erie woman - suffered minor injuries and went to the hospital.
A 6-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl were also in the SUV at the time but were not injured.
