Waldameer Prepares for 125th Season

The temperatures the past few days had us thinking about Summer time and one of the most popular places is of course, Waldameer Park, but what will it look like this year?
Last season for the Park was difficult especially opening up so late in the season, Owner Paul Nelson explains, "we didn't open up until after the Fourth of July and only 27% of our normal attendance came to the park."
Nelson tells Erie News Now they had plans in place for their 125th season this Summer but because of the pandemic some of those projects had to be put on hold.
"We wanted to put in two major new rides but because of not being able to open up until after the Fourth of July we had to cancel both of the rides," says Nelson.
He says although plans have had to change a little, you will still see a few new things around the park this year, "we have a new entrance way at the water park so we can get you in twice as fast, we are putting in a new food stand, and we are putting a very large tent where the show time theater was, which will be able to keep you out of the rain and have a place to eat if it does sprinkle."
Season pass holders are how Waldameer keeps their busing going, "that's the back bone of our business and we're not increasing the prices, they will be the same that they were two years ago."
Even with all the struggles Waldameer has faced during the pandemic, Nelson says Waldameer is here to stay for families to enjoy for years to come.
"We borrowed millions of dollars to keep in operation but, we'll turn around, we'll make it," says Nelson.
