Update: West Ridge Road and Millfair Accident
We have new information on the two car accident that kept a portion of West Ridge Road at Millfair Road shut down for hours on Saturday.
Pennsylvania State Police at the Girard barracks have released the names of the drivers.
According to their public information report, Caleb Voelker, 18, was driving his Ford Escape south on Millfair Rd., when he drove through a steady red light.
The front end of his car struck the driver's side of a Subaru Forester driven by Carolyn Smith, 70, sending her car into a grassy area east of Millfair Road.
She was driving east on West Ridge Road in the right lane. According to investigator Trooper Adam Andreas, Smith went through the intersection with a steady green light.
Smith was trapped in the wreckage, and suffered serious injuries. Rescuers freed her, and transported her to UPMC Hamot Trauma Center for treatment.
Voelker was not seriously hurt and did not require emergency treatment.
State police accident reconstruction experts and traffic investigators spent several hours at the scene gathering evidence and reconstructing the accident.
The investigation is ongoing. State police have not made a determination yet on any charges.
