Pier 6 Rooftop Bar and Restaurant is now open on Erie's bayfront.

Whether it's indoor or outdoor seating, one of the biggest attractions is the view.

"They're absolutely stunning," said John Melody, owner. "The amount of people you see out in the evening when the sun is going down with cameras taking pictures, it's great."

Melody is no stranger to the restaurant business. He operates five others in the area, but this is his first on the water.

"There's options down here for sure but not as many as people would like," said Melody. "This gives people another option on the water. The views - maybe not today, it's kind of an Irish day - but in and out from the raindrops, it's stunning."

The whole idea for the rooftop bar came when Melody was checking out the space below, which is the home of the future Bay House oyster bar and restaurant.

"When we were looking at that and thinking about putting something there, all that was here was a rubber roof," said Melody. "We went back to Convention Center and said, 'Is there a possibility of putting a rooftop bar?,' and here we are."

It seems Pier 6 already has some regulars.

"It's my second time," said Shannon Johnson. "The food is great. The atmosphere is wonderful. [It's a] great addition to the bayfront."

"This is beautiful," said Connie Michalski. "I grew up not too far from here and live in Girard now, and i had to see it. I want to see it when the sun is shining or when its not raining,"

Melody says this will be the place to be for the City of Erie's Lights over Lake Erie fireworks display, but you have to show up early. They are not taking reservations; it's first-come, first-served.

Friday marked Pier 6's fourth day of operation.
