The Erie School District is investigating after a fight forced Thursday night's Erie-Cathedral Prep football game to come to an abrupt end.

Erie News Now obtained new video of the violent fist fight, which broke out in the stands.

You can see a group of crowd members exchanging blows with at least two people being tossed to the ground.

School district police are seen stepping in to stop the melee, eventually using pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

At one point, someone yelled "shots fired," sending both teams running for cover.

However, no shots were actually fired, according to Erie Police.

With the fight now under investigation, both the Erie School District and Cathedral Prep said the fact this happened is totally unacceptable.

"To our knowledge, none of our students were involved," said Will Pituch, of Cathedral Prep. "However, if any of our students were involved or if any information comes our way, we're obviously going to cooperate with authorities, and any information will be passed on appropriately. If any of our students were involved, we're definitely going to be following up because the Erie Community needs nothing like these type of events."

Meanwhile, the Erie School District sent Erie News Now the following statement:

"We are deeply concerned about the incident that occurred at Erie Veterans Stadium last night. Our district police department and administration are working to gather details and determine a course of action moving forward. As always, the safety of our EPS community is our top priority."
