After Two-Month Strike, Erie Strayer Union Workers Reach Deal With Company
A week before Christmas, local union workers on strike for more than two months, will be back to work on Monday.
Union steel workers at Erie Strayer had been on strike for about 11 weeks, they walked off the job on October 4th after negotiations broke down.
The Strayer workers were fighting for fair wages and benefits.
According to a release:
Today, Friday, December 17, after nearly three months on strike day and night, Local 851 Ironworkers at Erie Strayer have reached a mutual agreement with their employer to end the strike with a new contract. We are pleased that Erie Strayer has come to the table in good faith today to meet us in our demands.
Congratulations to the proud and strong Union Ironworkers at Erie Strayer for continuously holding the line and serving as an inspiration to workers everywhere.
This win is a testament to the power of worker solidarity and that the best protection and future for workers everywhere is with a union contract made for workers and by workers.
We want to thank the Erie community who stood shoulder to shoulder with us on the line, the families and supporters who donated food and financial support, and our sisters and brothers in labor that marched with us every step of the way.
In union there is strength, and to all workers still on strike, remember: "Hold the Line!"
