LATEST: All vehicle restrictions have been removed, and the speed limits have been restored on Interstates 90 and 86.

EARLIER: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is planning to temporarily restricting certain vehicles on entire length of Interstates 86 and 90 in Erie County starting Saturday night due to the expected winter storm.

Tier 3 vehicle restrictions are expected to be put into place starting at 8 p.m.

On roadways with Tier 3 restrictions in place, no commercial vehicles are permitted EXCEPT loaded single trailers and/or loaded enclosed cargo delivery/box trucks with chains or approved alternate traction devices.

All school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted while restrictions are in place.

Speed limits will be reduced to 45 mph on these roadways for all vehicles while the restrictions are in place. Commercial vehicles not affected by the restrictions must move to the right lane.

Interstate 90 eastbound remains closed to all traffic from the I-86 interchange to the New York state line in connection with closures in New York.

PennDOT said the restrictions will help make sure the interstates remain open during the most challenging conditions of the winter storm. They will be removed when weather conditions improve.
