A Waterford woman was scammed out of nearly $3,000 on Facebook Marketplace, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The victim - a 50 year old - reported it to troopers Thursday.

She was attempting to sell a dress when she was provided a phone number to a fraudalent Cash App customer support hotline after the buyer claimed to have sent money to the victim for the dress, state police said.

The hotline then told the victim to wire transfer $2,961 to numerous locations to "unlock" the money for the dress, according to troopers.

State police said the incident is under investigation.
