We are six days away from the Super Bowl, and seven days away from what's turned into one of the biggest worker sickouts of the year.

In 2023, research from The Workforce Institute at UKG found that about one out of every five workers will miss a period of time that they should be on the clock the day after the Super Bowl. They estimate that roughly 18.8 million employees may call out of work Super Bowl Monday.

The Manufacturer & Business Association's Tracy Daggett says that a lack of transparency between employees and managers may be to blame. Daggett advises that managers plan ahead for a large number of call-outs. He says it's best to be proactive not reactive.

"Some organizations have taken the next step where they've been a little more proactive and made that a floating holiday," said Daggett.

Daggett tells us that another way to plan ahead is to over staff that Monday.
