As motorists gear up for the summer travel season, experts warn that America's landmark's aren't the only thing travelers should look out for - they should watch for deer as well.

"Especially right now looking ahead into the summer driving season, a time of the year when many many more people hit the road than normal, I mean we're expecting this Memorial Day for example to be the most travel on the road in history since we began tracking these numbers at AAA," said Jim Garrity Director of Public Affairs at AAA East Central. "It's always good on our little section of the world to keep deer in mind because they're usually out and about no matter where or what time of the year it is.

And while deer-related collisions in the spring and summer might not be as common as they are during the fall and winter, Prestige Auto Body owner Victor Irrizary says he's already seen his fair share of collisions.

"I've seen a lot more of them than I've seen in previous years," said Irrizary. "Especially now that it's springtime. We haven't seen too many hits as far as coming into the shop, but we've seen plenty of deer out there on the side of the road."

So how much damage can a deer collision do to your vehicle?

"Well it depends, obviously every hit is different," continued Irrizary. "For the side hit, we replace doors, the rear quarter panel, and so on. If it's a front hit then obviously there's more parts to replace. You know, headlights, bumpers, radiators, grills, condenser. So it could [cost] anywhere from $1500 to about $3000 to $4000, depending on the vehicle."
