After a nationwide search, the Erie School Board has officially appointed a new superintendent to lead the district.

On Tuesday, in a 7-1 vote, the board elected Dr. Natalyn Gibbs to serve as the next superintendent of Erie's Public Schools.

Dr. Gibbs will take over the duties of current Erie Superintendent Brian Polito, once he retires on June 30.

Dr. Gibbs is the current executive director at Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, in Nashville, Tennessee.

She has agreed to a three-year contract, with a starting salary of $235,000, followed by annual increases.

Dr. Gibbs will begin the transition process with the district in April, and will officially takeover as superintendent on July 1.
