Erie Events is planning to move forward with a multi-million dollar project to build an indoor market house along Erie's bayfront.

The market house is expected to be built on the southern portion of the Bayfront Convention Center property, next to the former GAF site.

According to Erie Events Executive Director Gus Pine, the 30,000 square foot building will include two anchor tenants on the ground floor and a public market made up of local vendors and locally made products.

There will also be 7,500 square feet of event space on the second floor of the building.

"We've been really successful with the convention center, the hotels and all the other projects that we've done down there," said Pine. "We look at this as the next linchpin project, that is going to attract not only tourists, but the locals as well, so we think it's really important to get this thing started."

Pine hopes to begin putting out bids for the project in the spring, followed by construction in the fall.

The project is expected to take a year to complete.
