Former political analyst and Gannon University professor Dr. David Kozak has passed away at 80.

He died Sunday after a long illness, surrounded by loved ones, according to the obituary.

Born in Lackawanna, New York, Kozak served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.

He later taught political science and leadership at Gannon University, inspiring students with his innovative teaching and bipartisan approach. Known for bringing guest speakers, including U.S. presidents, he connected students to unique opportunities like attending presidential conventions.

Kozak was also a national political analyst, also appearing on WICU and WSEE over the years, a Chautauqua Institution lecturer for 25 years and a devoted family man.

He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Maryanne, and had three children, and grandchildren.

A private burial with military honors will take place in Colorado, with memorials planned in Erie.
