Body of Kayaker who Went Missing on Allegheny River Discovered

The body of a kayaker who went missing on the Allegheny River earlier this year has been recovered according to Pennsylvania State Police.
On April 14th, police received a report of a body found five miles south of the Tidioute Bridge, along the Allegheny River.
The remains were later identified by the Warren County Coroner's Office as 20-year-old Jeremiah Smith of Lakeview, South Dakota.
Smith had been missing since January 28th, when he was last seen kayaking on the river.
State police say a resident in Limestone Township discovered the body in the water while clearing brush on their property.
Emergency crews including the Tidioute Fire Department and Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) responded and recovered the body.
Officer Kyle Callahan with the PSP stated that recovery efforts led by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission had been ongoing since Smith's disappearance, but winter weather and dangerous river conditions hindered those efforts.
The Warren County Coroner, Melissa Zydonik, confirmed his identity through dental and medical records. She then released the remains to his family, who are now planning his funeral.
“This brings closure to a difficult chapter for the family and community,” Zydonik said. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family during this time of grief.”
Police say the incident is not being ruled as a homicide, and no foul play is suspected.
