1 Convicted, 2 Acquitted at Trial in Hertel and Brown Federal Fraud Case

A jury on Wednesday reached a verdict in the largest federal fraud prosecution in Erie history.
Only three of 21 charged in the Hertel and Brown case went to trial, and only one - Julie Johnson - was convicted.
It comes after the FBI in 2021 raided one of five Hertel and Brown Physical Therapy locations, uncovering a 14-year history of overbilling insurance companies for therapy.
The jury acquitted two licensed physical therapy assistants, Abigayle Fachetti and Marissa Hull, of all charges.
Defense attorney Elliot Segel, who represented Hull, said client was new in her first job at a private clinic, only doing what she was told.
Hull and Fachetti both testified they had no intent to commit fraud.
Licensed physical therapist Julie Johnson, who did not testify in court, was convicted of health care fraud but acquitted of a conspiracy charge.
Prosecutor Christian Trabold argued all three knowingly participated in a fraudulent billing scheme.
