Investigators Identify Man Shot, Killed by Police at Millcreek Apartment Complex

Pennsylvania State Police have identified the man shot and killed by Millcreek Township Police after responding to reports of a man breaking car windows with a hammer, and someone trying to attack his girlfriend with a hammer, according to investigators.
It happened just after 7:15 p.m. at 1660 Treetop Dr. at The Reserve at Millcreek, which is located along Kuntz Rd.
Investigators said responding police encountered Patrick Kanonczyk, 36. There was a brief exchange, and officers fired shots which then hit Kanonczyk.
A witness said he heard at least three shots and stepped outside to see first responders performing CPR on a person down on the pavement.
Millcreek Police taped off the area as paramedics continued for several minutes to try and revive the victim. Those efforts were not successful. Kanonczyk died at the scene, and a deputy Erie County coroner was called.
The officers involved were not injured, and there is no threat to the public, according to police.
Pennsylvania State Police have been assigned to investigate the incident per Erie County’s protocol for the investigation of officer-involved shootings.
Treetop Dr. was closed as part of the State Police investigation.
