Presque Isle Now Open for Swimming
The First Warning forecast doesn't exactly scream "Let's go to the beach", but the swimming season at Presque Isle State Park officially opens on Saturday.
Park officials tell Erie News Now they plan to have Beaches 3,6,8, and 11 open for swimming from noon to 7:15pm over the weekend.
Of course, that means they'll have lifeguards in place there. Swimming's technically only allowed on those guarded beaches.
Lifeguard Manager Bob North said his team's been training ahead of the summer season. "We take them for 80 hours of training before they even hit the beach. And, its really important that we get somebody that can commit to the program. Every day they come out here they get some type of physical training. CPR, First Aid, one day a week weight-lifting. So, we prepare them for what the lake has to offer", said North He expects some people to brave the water this weekend, despite the cold.
Park leaders also said they'll have ADA access at Beach 8 over the holiday weekend.
