Pennsylvania Senators Dave McCormick (R-PA) and John Fetterman (D-PA) have introduced a bipartisan bill (S. 2044) to move the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (OFECM) from Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh.

Pennsylvania is the nation’s second-largest natural gas producer, with most production in western PA.

Pittsburgh already houses the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), which works closely with OFECM.

The move would bring about 750 federal jobs closer to the region’s energy industry.

The bill requires the DOE to relocate OFECM to Pittsburgh within a year and mandates a report to Congress on employment impacts and collective bargaining rights.

Senators say the move will strengthen ties between federal agencies and the communities they serve, while supporting local jobs and energy innovation.
