Police and SWAT teams surrounded UPMC Park and next-door Erie Insurance Arena in downtown Erie Monday.

Erie News Now saw officers in the area around 5 p.m. Some were carrying long guns. 

A witness said those inside UPMC Park were safely evacuated. 

They were told by Erie Police that it is believed this was a swatting incident.

That is when a fake call is made to emergency officials.

Officers left the area around 5:30 p.m.

The threat came less than 24 hours after HBO's Last Week Tonight announced its alternate identity for the Erie SeaWolves, who play at UPMC Park. It is not known if the incident is related to the HBO announcement.
