Fresh Monkee Opens First Standalone Location in Erie
A new health-focused option has arrived in Erie’s food scene with the opening of Fresh Monkee, a popular protein shake franchise known for its clean-label ingredients and satisfying meal replacements.
The new location at 2805 W. 12th Street, near the intersection of Peninsula Drive, is the first standalone Fresh Monkee in the region.
The store is owned and operated by Joy Peoples, a longtime Erie resident and first-time business owner. Peoples said the concept reflects her family’s commitment to clean eating and wholesome nutrition.
“Erie hasn’t had anything like this, and I’m thrilled to open our doors,” Peoples said. “Fresh Monkee reflects everything my family has valued for years, real food, wholesome ingredients, and supporting a healthy lifestyle.”
Founded in Connecticut in 2014 by Judy Flynn, Fresh Monkee has grown rapidly by offering protein shakes made with whole fruits, vegetables, natural nut butters, and high-quality proteins, without artificial flavors or additives.
The Erie location features popular shake options like the Chunkee Monkee, Lime Green Mango, and Watermelon Strawberry Limeade, with vegan and gluten-free offerings available.
Peoples’ journey to opening the store began two decades ago when she started removing processed foods from her pantry to help her young son.
That passion eventually led to bringing the franchise to Erie, where she’s already partnered with Crunch Fitness and Sinai Sports to help connect customers with healthier post-workout nutrition.
The shop quietly opened in late June, but a Grand Opening celebration is set for July 10, featuring free samples, special promotions, and community activities.
