A man is dead following a shooting involving a Pennsylvania state parole agent in the City of Erie on Wednesday night, according to a news release issued Thursday.

It happened at E. 27th and German St. around 9:45 p.m. City of Erie Police, Pennsylvania State Police and SWAT were all called to the scene.

Investigators said the parole agent fired a department-issued pistol at a man who was then hit by gunfire. The victim then drove away in a white car heading west on E. 27th St., according to City of Erie Police.

Responding city police officers saw a car coming towards them with the driver slumped over inside the car, police said in a statement. Officer used their patrol car to stop the oncoming vehicle from going into the intersection, according to the statement.

Erie police approached the vehicle and saw the driver was incapacitated. They removed him from the vehicle and started providing first aid until emergency crews arrived, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries. Police said they also took the state parole agent to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

No further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released at this time. The Erie County District Attorney and Pennsylvania State Police are handling the investigation and expected to provide additional details.

A large crowd of neighbors and residents were still gathered around the area early Thursday morning.

Neighbor Sherrie Taylor told Erie News Nowshe saw police hit a white car before running back. She said everyone in the neighborhood is feeling hurt by the event.
