North East Firemen's Cherry Festival
The Cherry Festival is a beloved tradition of the North East community. For 77 years people have gathered for parades, sweet and savory treats, games and fellowship. More than just a fair, the proceeds from the festival benefit the volunteer Fire Departments of the community. The locals of North East consider Cherry Fest has a homecoming. People plan their summer around the fair and often host class reunions and family reunions on the grounds.
Several notable vendors include The Sausage Tent, which is a staple of the festival and the namesake Cherry Festival Sausage. This tent features a delicious fresh made, hand cut roll surrounds a secret recipe sausage with fresh cut onions and peppers. Ox Roast, Hot Dogs, Burgers and the sweetest Cherry Pies await you at the Ladies Auxiliary tent. Serving the finest Smiths provisions products, the Ladies serve up crowd pleasing favorites year after year.
Last year's festival was reported as the largest parade of volunteer Fire Fighters in the state. The streets of North East come alive with music, floats, horses and a display of emergency vehicles.
