Beach art built from rocks, reading "Lake Erie", recently appeared on one of Presque Isle’s popular public beaches, and for a couple days, it quietly captured the attention of beachgoers.

The carefully arranged structure, reportedly created by an unknown artist, had been in place for several days, drawing photos and curiosity from visitors who stumbled upon the design.

But earlier this week, the rock art was destroyed when a park maintenance worker, conducting routine sand raking as part of daily grooming efforts, ran over it with equipment.

Reaction from the public has been mixed. Some locals expressed disappointment, saying the piece added something special and peaceful to the landscape. Others said the employee was simply doing his job of clearing the beach.

Officials at Presque Isle have not commented on the incident, but beach grooming is a standard part of park maintenance, especially during peak summer season.

For now, the rock artist remains anonymous, but the incident has sparked a broader conversation about balancing natural creativity with the realities of public space maintenance.
