'Click to Cancel’ Bill Passes PA House with Strong Bipartisan Support
Legislation aimed at making it easier for Pennsylvanians to cancel online subscriptions has cleared the state House with overwhelming support.
House Bill 1299, sponsored by Rep. Joe Ciresi, passed by a vote of 181-22 on July 8, marking a significant step forward for consumer protection in the digital marketplace.
The bill, often referred to as the "Click to Cancel" legislation, would require companies offering automatically renewing subscriptions to allow consumers to cancel them online, through a straightforward process, without needing to speak to a customer service representative.
Ciresi said the bill is designed to eliminate barriers that many consumers face when trying to end online subscriptions.
A previous version of the bill passed the House in an earlier session but stalled in the Senate.
House Bill 1299 now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
