As of 8:44 a.m. on July 9, 2025, the Erie County Department of Health has issued "Restricted Swimming" advisories for Beaches 6 and 8 at Presque Isle State Park due to elevated Escherichia coli (E. coli) levels in the water.

Routine water testing detected geometric mean counts of 135.7 at Beach 6 and 135.8 at Beach 8, both exceeding the safety threshold of 126 CFU (colony forming units) per 100 mL.

While the readings fall below the emergency closure level of 1000 CFU/100 mL, the results are high enough to restrict swimming to protect public health.

Re-testing is now underway and will be performed daily until water quality returns to acceptable levels.

During the restriction period, entry into the water is not permitted at the affected beaches. However, the beach areas remain open for sunbathing and land-based recreation.

All other guarded beaches at Presque Isle remain open for swimming.
