U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued a statement Wednesday in response to reports that the U.S. Secret Service has suspended personnel after the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump in Kelly’s hometown of Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I applaud Director Curran and Deputy Director Quinn’s efforts to implement transparency and accountability to the Secret Service,” said Kelly. “It is critical that we remain dedicated to returning the Secret Service to the gold standard of protection as they modernize their zero-fail mission.”

Kelly, who previously chaired the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, emphasized his continued support for restoring the agency’s reputation.

“I look forward to working with Director Curran to restore the Secret Service as the elite law enforcement agency in the country,” he added.

The Secret Service has not disclosed the number or roles of the personnel suspended but stated the move is part of a broader internal review of security failures related to the attack. The investigation remains ongoing.
