A video from Friday evening shared with Erie News Now shows an alleged violent confrontation involving Meadville Police officers.

The individual on the electric bicycle is being pursued by Meadville Police and the attempt to apprehend him escalates quickly into a physical struggle.

Moments later, a second officer arrives on scene, exits his cruiser and, based on the video, appears to use force to help subdue the individual.

The incident continued for three minutes with multiple officers involved in the takedown.

Erie News Now contacted the Meadville Police Chief, the Mayor, and the Department for comment and we received a statement that reads:

The Meadville Police Department is aware of the incident that occurred this evening on Baldwin Street during an arrest. An internal investigation has been initiated.

We ask for the public’s patience during this investigation, which will include a review of body-worn camera footage, witness statements, the video that has been made public, and all relevant facts.

The Meadville Police Department is committed to protecting and serving the people of the City of Meadville, and treating all people with dignity. Our department holds its officers to the highest professional standards, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every interaction between our officers and the public is conducted with integrity, respect and fairness.
