Millcreek Township Blocks Weekend Cyberattack, No Services Affected
Township officials are reassuring residents that no data was compromised and services remained uninterrupted after a cybersecurity threat was detected and thwarted over the weekend.
According to the Millcreek Township Police Department, unknown actors attempted to infiltrate the Township’s computer network and install malicious software on Sunday, July 13. Thanks to proactive security systems, the attack was blocked before any damage occurred.
As a precaution, the Township’s network was temporarily disconnected from the internet while IT staff, in partnership with VNET, conducted a full audit of the system. All Township services continued operating during the lockdown and full functionality was restored later that same day.
Officials confirmed that there was no data breach or system compromise, but have implemented additional security measures to prevent similar threats in the future.
Millcreek Township encourages residents and local governments alike to remain vigilant against cyber threats and prioritize cybersecurity readiness.
