Community Demands Answers 48 Days After Marchello Woodard’s Death
A determined group gathered this evening in Erie to call for answers in the death of Marchello Woodard. The event, organized by the Justice for Chello Coalition, took place outside Liberty Park’s "8 Great Tuesdays" concert series.
Demonstrators held signs reading “Justice for Chello” and chanted “Say His Name,” as they voiced their concerns over what they describe as a lack of transparency surrounding the case.
Woodard’s family referred to today’s demonstration as the “It Ain’t Great Protest,” highlighting their continued frustration.
Marchello Woodard died 48 days ago, on July 2, during an encounter with agents from the Pennsylvania Department of Probation and Parole.
We spoke with Woodard’s sister and cousin, who helped organize the demonstration. They say the family is growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of information and are calling for accountability.
In a latest statement, Erie County District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz said, “The case remains active and under review.”
