The Volunteers Behind Tall Ships
There's still another day to check out Tall Ships this year. This event wouldn't happen if it weren't for the dozens of volunteers.
This is Maureen Kurtic's first year volunteering and she said she is loving it. "It is great, Erie is such an awesome town, such an awesome place. I was born and raised here, didn't ever want to move. It's great for our community, it allows people to see what Erie is all about and this is just one weekend of it. I wish they did it every year", said Kurtic.
These volunteers are responsible for so many things, everything from answering questions, making sure people are getting through security and helping them get on the boats. The men and women get to talk with people who travel from all over the country to see the nine ships.
Kurtic said she has talked to people from all over, "The people I have talked to, the furthest have been Florida and South Carolina so far."
Longtime volunteers said talking to the people is the best part of the job. Norb Fronmknecht said, "It's great to talk to people, promote Erie. The ships they promote themselves."
He encourages residents and visitors to enjoy the ships before they depart, "If you haven't come down, please come down, it's a great time, people are great, if you talk to the people on the ships, they are just fantastic people to talk to."
The nine vessels will be in Erie until Sunday. Tall Ships run from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
