What to Know About This Year's Election

Election Day is just over two months away. Because of that, Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt has launched the administration's voter education efforts.
“Every voter should have the opportunity to make their voice heard, and that is why the department is providing clear, nonpartisan information about how Pennsylvanians can properly cast their ballot,” he said.
Important Dates
- Oct. 20: Last day to register to vote
- Oct. 28: Last day to apply for mail ballot
- Nov. 4 (Election Day): Polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Nov. 4 at 8 p.m.: County elections office needs mail ballot
What's New
Redesigned provisional ballot envelopes are now being used. Schmidt said they are more user-friendly.
Mail ballot materials and online mail ballot applications have also gotten a makeover. The changes make mail ballots more uniform across Pennsylvania's 67 counties.
It also streamlines the application process and provides clearer instructions, Schmidt said.
