Sensory Friendly Fair for Three Wattsburg Classrooms
As fair and festival season continues, a group of students were able to have the Erie County Fair all to themselves. The Wattsburg District's Life Skills and Autistic Support Classrooms were able to experience a less crowded fair. The intention was for students to have a positive experience that they can share with their families and potentially return together. There was no music, but the atmosphere was full of curiosity and excitement. Several rides were open, and the students were able to enjoy the rides without waiting in line and some even took rides back-to-back.
One of the event organizers, Lisa Pier, works with the students she says: "Because a lot of them don't come to the fair because it's very overwhelming with the lights, sound, music, people, they can't handle all of that. So, we decided with the help of the Wattsburg Fair and three local vendors, we asked if we could create that day for them. A local day where they could come in a fun day where they could come in and they can ride rides, and they can see the animals and they could get treats to take home."
